Free Desexing

A Community Service

QT Community Cats is committed to assisting our community in preventing unwanted animals through responsible pet ownership. By contacting our team, you can easily have your cat desexed at no cost to you. Together, we can create a healthier environment for our cats and improve their lives.

Why Rescue Is The Best Option?

See below the many reasons why adoption is the best way to bring a new companion into your family

A Second Chance

No doubt the biggest reason why Rescue is best. By adopting a cat from QT Community Cats you are giving a cat a second chance at life. Some of our rescues have been abandoned or left to fend for themselves on the streets.  A second chance at Life. A second chance to love.

Prevent Overpopulation

Each cat we rescue is a testament to resilience and the hope for a better tomorrow. By choosing to adopt rather than go to a shop or breeder for a specific type of pet, you are caring for a cat that already needs support, instead of bringing another cat into the world.

You Might Find Your Soulmate

With  so many cats in shelters who just want to be cared for, there’s a good chance you'll find the one that fits into your family just right. Visit us at QT and make a new connection today.

Our Team Will Support You Every Step Of The Way

No one knows more about the cat you are adopting than the people working at the shelter each day, providing care and support for them. Our experienced team are available for advice and support year round.

You Are Supporting A Community Charity

It’s always good to show support and help out a local organisation like ours. Animals Rescues provide a valuable service to the cats in their care, so by adopting one, you’re also contributing to the ongoing care of the animals in need.

You'll Improve Their Life & Yours

Adopting a pet doesn't just help support the health and wellbeing of the animal. Studies show that having a pet can help you live longer, whilst improving your overall happiness and health. Having a cat companion also helps people with depression, stress, anxiety, and many other ailments.

Andrea

For me being part of QT Community Cats means living by the belief that the biggest changes are born through the simplest acts of kindness. Kindness to animals and kindness to humans go hand in hand, each one reflecting and strengthening the other. The more we show up for one another, both people and animals, the more we create a world that is compassionate, accepting, and filled with hope for all.

We welcome you and thank you for wanting to be part of the love. Come and be part of our kaitiaki whānau, a caring family of guardians who protect, nurture, and stand together for the wellbeing of all living beings.

Nadja

My name is Nadja. I’m a proud crazy cat lady and passionate animal lover. I joined the cat rescue in January and have been there almost every day since - helping with daily tasks, entertaining visitors, chasing cats for social media content or manage funding applications to help us get the support we need to keep doing what we do best: caring for cats and the people who love them. Being part of this big, happy community feels like finding a new family. My vision is to help create an open, welcoming space where both animals and people feel safe, loved and connected. I want every cat to live a happy, healthy life while protecting our native wildlife — a real win-win for everyone!

Cara

Kia Ora, my name is Cara. I arrived in Queenstown from Canada May 2025 in search of my newest adventure. Wanting to get involved with the community, I landed on the doorstep of QT Community Cats within my first week of arriving to town.

Since then, the cats and the humans have become more than just the community I was searching for, it’s become my home away from home. I am so passionate about providing the love and care that the cats deserve, and along the way I’ve also managed to make some incredible friendships. Taking part in volunteer days out, fundraising events, and even behind the scenes social media content. My soul is so full being a part of this little family.

Emily

Hi, I’m Emily. I’ve been a part of QT Cats for the past two years. I first stumbled across the rescue while looking for a sense of community, and I quickly found that the cats brought me a lot of healing. Spending time at the rescue and lending a hand has become something I truly love.

When I first started visiting, the rescue was really short on volunteers, so I created the QT Cats Volunteers page to help build a strong support network. Today, our community has grown to over 560 volunteers…and it’s still growing!

I love being part of the rescue because it’s such a warm, welcoming space where you can meet amazing people and, of course, some very cool cats. I’m also really inspired by Andrea’s vision and the inclusive, community-focused environment she’s created.

We have a lot of drive and heart for the future. Im proud to keep building an inclusive space where both people and animals can feel safe and supported. I’m excited to keep growing with this community and to be part of everything we can achieve together.

QT Cat Rescue Diana

Diana

I first came to the rescue in 2021 in search of a furry companion. What I found was so much more. Over time, I became a regular visitor/helper. Even after I adopted 2 kittens, I kept coming back and now this is my regular weekend activity. It`s not just the purrs and cuddles that keep me coming back. It`s the also the friendly faces, the sense of community, and the good vibes.
I like that this group is not just rescuing cats, but also makes a positive impact on the community through outreach programmes.

Lakes Vets Tam Smith

Tam Smith - Lakes Vets

After 20+ years as a practicing vet in Queenstown, I recently launched Lakes Vets. This venture was directly inspired by my work with Qt Community Cats and a desire to bring gentle, accessible, and high-quality veterinary care directly to cats in the comfort of their homes.
Working alongside the team at Qt Community Cats is truly a privilege. They are exceptionally kind, organised, and fiercely driven to provide the highest welfare for their rescue cats, often under difficult financial constraints. It is deeply rewarding to support their mission and the people involved are an inspiration.
I am proud to extend this dedicated approach to all district cat owners through convenient mobile home visits. My services include routine health check-ups, vaccinations, palliative care, and compassionate end-of-life services, including euthanasia and cremation, all offered at competitive prices. In conjunction with home visits I also have a purpose-built trailer for surgeries and procedures such as neutering and wound care.
