Kitten season has officially begun, and the past few weeks have been especially busy at QT Community Cats. We’ve already welcomed several vulnerable cats and kittens into our care — each with their own story, challenges, and plenty of personality.

Our New Arrivals
Our first arrivals were a litter of three 12-week-old kittens — two tabbies and one black. Sadly, all three arrived with very poor eye health. After an urgent vet visit, two are now on the road to recovery. One of the tabby boys will need surgery to remove what remains of his damaged eye. Meanwhile, our team is still actively working to trap Mum so she too can be kept safe and desexed.
Next came a single little tabby girl, around seven weeks old, with the biggest, most curious eyes you’ve ever seen.
Not long after, we received a tiny young tabby mum who is barely bigger than her three babies, all around ten weeks old — two tabbies and one black. These cats were very clearly dumped. Despite this, they are incredibly affectionate. Mum is a confident, chatty little cat who trusts people completely, which makes her story all the more heartbreaking.
Rounding out the week was a family of six black cats — three ten-week-old kittens, two adolescents around six months old, and one very friendly adult tom. Huge thanks must go to Claire and her family, who stepped in to rescue them, turning their holiday into a working one while caring for these cats until help arrived. We are so grateful for their compassion.
What Happens When Cats Arrive at QT Community Cats
Every kitten that comes to QT Community Cats receives thoughtful care from the moment they step through our doors. Our process ensures they’re safe, healthy, and ready for a bright future with loving families:
Initial Quarantine (First Week)
When kittens first arrive, they go into a one-week quarantine so we can watch closely for illnesses and prevent any spread of infection. This step is vital in keeping our entire rescue population healthy.
Health Checks & Vaccinations
After the first week, each kitten receives a full vet check and vaccinations to protect them as they grow. Part of these checks is an FELV/FIV test. If this test comes back positive, the cat or kitten will go into dedicated foster care, where they cannot spread the virus to healthy cats. These are loving foster homes that are specially designed to care for these cats.
Second Quarantine (Two More Weeks)
Once they’ve had their checks and shots, kittens spend a further two weeks in quarantine, continuing to recover and adjust while staying under close observation.
Therapy Room Socialisation & Cuddles
When they’re cleared from quarantine, our kittens graduate to the therapy room — a cosy, joyful space where volunteers and visitors can come in to socialise, play, and give cuddles. This social enrichment helps build confidence and prepares them for happy family life.
This careful care routine not only keeps them healthy but helps them thrive emotionally too — something we couldn’t do without people who share their time, homes, and hearts with us.
How You Can Help
This season is one of the busiest times of the year, and we really need all hands on deck! Here are three great ways you can make a difference:
🙌 Become a Volunteer
Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do — from playtime to cleaning, cuddles to feeding. Giving just a few hours of your time each week helps kittens feel loved and supported, and helps our team keep up with the workload.
If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, now is the perfect time to jump in and make a real impact!
🏡 Foster a Kitten (or More!)
Fosters provide essential space and personalised care until kittens are ready for adoption. No experience? Don’t worry — we offer support every step of the way. Foster homes offer warmth, confidence-building socialisation, and the chance for a kitten to grow up feeling secure before finding their forever family.
It’s a beautiful way to help, and you’ll get plenty of purrs in return!
💖 Donate Supplies or Funds
From kitten milk and formula to blankets, toys, medical supplies, and more — donations mean everything. Our work is funded by generous people like you, and every contribution goes directly toward the well-being of the cats in our care. Please visit our donation page if you would like to support our efforts.
Whether you choose to sponsor a kitten’s care, drop off supplies, or make a financial donation, your support helps us save lives and give these little ones the best possible start.
✨ Be Part of Something Special
Kitten season may bring a lot of work — but it also brings joy, resilience and connection. Every tiny whisker, every purr, every playful leap forward reminds us why we do what we do.
Thank you to everyone who has supported QT Community Cats so far this year. With your help, we’ll keep welcoming kittens with open arms and hearts full of compassion.
Let’s make this the most loving, caring, and successful kitten season yet 🐾💖
